Hi guys, We have just returned from 8 weeks in Belguim and Holland. We have left the boat in Oudenaarde, Belguim for another winter and we go back in May 2008. We found cruising Holland difficult with a boat our size. The rivers which are mostly tidal and run at 7 klms were tricky to say the least. We needed all the horsepower our Perkins engine could give which is 135hp and we struggled at times to make head way. The Dutch only want you to stay in Yacht Clubs, the canal banks are not boat friendly. The size of the commercial boats are scary especially when locking and on the Albert canal. We did very careful route planning and still some days we got it wrong. We are back to France next year. We need somewhere to leave Romany for next winter.
