Amsterdam to Weesp and Muiden

We motored through Amsterdam back the way we had first arrived. The bridges this time were not a worry as we now know we can get under 2.6M. It is lovely cruising down the small canals and the changing scenery as we journey out of Amsterdam.

Under the last small bridge and onto the Amstel.

The people on this houseboat had an extra barge alongside for the garden.

A very nice view from the patio.

Obviously a tree lover.

Wide open spaces

Crossing the Amsterdam Rijn Canal was interesting as just as we poked our nose out to cross over to the Smal Weesp Canal, a huge barge passing another barge charged by so we ducked around those two and scuttled across just before two more came in the other direction. Just in this one crossing, looking left and right I counted 9 barges in sight. Oliver in Trapani was following and the water was like a washing machine agitator. tossing him around.

Our overnight stop was Weesp where we moored alongside the canal in town near the windmill.

The charges were 8 euro per night with electricity available using .5 euro coins. The town had a lot of sculptures along a small canal, of course this one was titled Water bed.

On our way we came across this garden which reminds us of how precious space is in Holland. The people in this house made their garden on the bank of the canal.

We have been able to watch the Holland in each of their games in the Euro Cup, houses, businesses and people get in the spirit and dress up in Orange.

It was getting very windy and tomorrow we need to voyage out of Muiden into the lower Markemeer where the waves can be whipped up quickly in the open water. We have been advised to check on the weather before going out.

This morning the wind blew and the rain fell, definitely not the weather to leave the safety of the canal. We decided to don the wet weather gear and ride the 5 k to Muiden to see for ourselves what the water was like. We found the bike ride interesting and came across this huge double bridge as it lifted for the yacht to go through.

Muiden has several yacht havens, space all along the canal for mooring and castle.

We rode out to the headland to see the sea with the wind howling and light rain falling and hoping tomorrow would be better.

The rain and wind stopped during the night so we decided to go. First we had to wait until 9am for the two bridges out of town to open and after paying our 3 euro we set off for Muiden. Another 3 euro passed hands to go through the sea lock and then it was down past the yacht clubs and out of the safety of the harbour. The wind was blowing about 20kph the first part of the 14 k was behind small islands then we were on the open water with the wind and waves coming from behind.
